The outdoor movie season is fully up and running with tonight’s screening of Dr. No in Bryant Park. Outdoor cinema is known for its free (or cheap) admission, usually well-curated selection, and the ability to b.y.o.p. (bring your own picnic). The past few years have shown steady growth for outdoor screenings and this summer will prove to be no exception with films being shown in rooftops and parks all across the city.
- Here is list of some of the outdoor film screenings
Movies Under The Stars, Riverside Park
Politically charged selection for the summer.
Bryant Park Summer Film Festival
Largest outdoor screening in the city and the hardest to get seating.
Summer Screen, McCarren Park
‘Indie’ cult classic films and the last summer the park will be around for screenings.
Rooftop Films
Small and intimate underground cinema, usually with Q&A afterwards.
Socrates Sculpture Park
A collaboration with the Museum of the Moving Image, screening a selection of international films.
1st Annual NYC Food Film Festival, Water Taxi Beach
I think the title is self explanatory.
Leave comments below with any other outdoor screenings I may have missed.
